Dale Farm welcomes Argentinean footballers with a pint of the white stuff

A football team from Argentina will be making its first appearance at the Milk Cup this year, thanks to the support of leading local dairy business, Dale Farm, and charity AthleticHope.

The 18-strong group of teenage footballers all hail from one of the toughest and most poverty stricken districts of Argentina’s second city, Cordoba, and the opportunity to take part in the tournament – now recognised as one of the most important international youth footballing events – has been made possible by funds raised locally by AthleticHope.

And to ensure the energetic young squad and their coaching staff are fully fuelled for the intense competition – as well as a hectic round of sight-seeing and hospitality – Dale Farm is playing a pivotal role in supplying all of their dairy nutritional needs for the duration of their two-week stay, seeing litres of Dale Farm Milk, hundreds of Sukie drinks, pots of Spelga Yogurt, pounds of Dromona Butter and Cheese downed!

As Northern Ireland’s biggest dairy company, Dale Farm has played an important role in supporting the Milk Cup since its inception 25 years ago, including creating a special ‘Milk Cup Elite Player Award’ recognising the most outstanding player of the tournament. Last year’s winner was Edgar Santander of Paraguay so the Argentinean team may have its eye on taking the title to South America for a second year!

Elly Hunter of Dale Farm explains, “We are delighted to be associated with the Milk Cup which supports the physical development of young people providing both an outlet for their sporting talents and also driving home the message that to perform to the best of their abilities, they must provide their bodies with healthy nourishment. When AthleticHope approached us to support the nutrition of the Argentinean team, it really was the perfect opportunity to emphasis the importance of dairy products in fuelling active lifestyles. Everyone at Dale Farm wishes the team a successful tournament and an enjoyable stay in Northern Ireland.”

The Argentinean team’s dream trip to Northern Ireland includes 10 days in Down District taking part in recreational and sporting activities and a weekend in Dublin participating in a one-day football tournament. But no doubt the highlight of their trip will be taking part in the biggest international youth football, the 2007 Milk Cup!
