Girl and Women's Football in Northern Ireland

The popularity of girls' and women's football in Northern Ireland is at an all-time high.

With all ages now becoming involved in the game it just shows that anything the boys can do, so can the girls!

Dale Farm is committed to supporting the physical development of all our young people, not just boys. Dairy is an important food for many young girls and can help prevent osteoporosis later in life. The partnership with The IFA and women’s football is a perfect match and we are delighted to be on board.

Dale Farm Team and Player of the Month – February 2010 Dominican Grammar School

Dominican Grammar School has had a very successful February, winning both the Dale Farm team and player of the month awards for taking the title in both sections of the Dale Farm County Antrim Schoolgirls League. Jennifer McDade was crowned Player of the Month after her performance in the final of the Year 10/11 final.

The Year 8/9 girls had it all to play for with Dominican Grammar only needing a point in their final game against Hazelwood integrated College. Hazelwood had a chance to take the title, but only a win would do.

Both teams came into the game and looked extremely nervous throughout the first half despite shots on target from either side, but it was Dominican midfielder Fionnuala McVicker who opened the scoring after intercepting a pass. The Hazelwood goalkeeper, who made some excellent saves before injuring her hand, then moved up-field to play as a striker, getting the equaliser close to full time. This point was enough for Dominican to win the league.

Dominican Grammar Year 10/11’s final game, was also against Hazelwood, and needed only a draw to secure their title. Despite Hazelwood going one ahead within five minutes of the whistle, Dominican came storming back to win the game 2-1, both goals coming from striker Lauren McCollum. Dale Farm player of the month Jennifer McDade provided a fantastic assist across the face of the goal setting up the final goal.

With two stunning performances and two titles in the bag, Dominican teacher Jonny Donnelly was ecstatic. He said: "The whole school is extremely proud of what both teams have achieved this year. The Dale Farm league was extremely well organised as always with every team fighting for the title right to the end. The dedication all of the players have shown is fantastic and we hope to continue this success in next season’s league ".
